Installation and Setup

You can download the Tumblr app from the iTunes App Store through iTunes or directly from your device.

The first thing you’ll need to do after launching the app is sign into your Tumblr account. If you don’t already have one there is an option to sign up for it. From here you can also select the option to start in the dashboard.

Using Tumblr iPhone App

Just like on the site you can make different types of posts from text, photo, audio, and more. Video posts are only available on the iPhone, not the iPod Touch.

Here we made a quick and easy Text post and sent it on up. Unfortunately on the iPod Touch there doesn’t seem a way to upload an image to the text posts.

Tap on Open advanced options to get more controls like when to publish it, add tags, and select which Tumblr you want to post it to if you have multiple sites.

You can also turn on posting your post to Twitter and letting readers respond.

Once we published it you’ll see a progress screen while it uploads.

That is all there is to it! It’s simple and easy to create posts on your Tumblr site.

It’s published and you can edit it further or delete it if you’re not happy with it from the Dashboard.

Here we take a look at what it looks like from a browser on a PC.

If you do want to add an image to one of your Text posts, you’ll need to go to your Tumblr blog on your PC and edit the post to upload the photo.

If you start writing a post and decide you’re not happy with it you can easily delete it or save it to work on later.

Tumbler is a great way to get your own personal site and you can update it through a variety of means. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, adding the Tumblr app gives you yet another method. For more on the awesomeness of Tumblr check out our other articles about the service.

Overall the Tumblr app worked quite well on the iPod Touch, we weren’t able to test out the video option on an iPhone. If you have, leave us a comment and let us know!
